| Introduction | At university after two years of medicine I squeezed in a year of English Literature which gave me a nominal English degree. Back in medicine again, and eager for some big city action, I went to London for clinicals but the teaching hospital was full of nosebleeds instead of gunshot wounds. Spent the next 10 years in surgery, training increasingly "flexibly" after my first kid in 2000. Then ultra-flexibly doing colonoscopy. Now 3 kids. But I've been persuaded, mainly by the mortgage, to return to full-time training.. |
| Interests | medical humanities especially crossover between medicine and literature; doctor-writers |
| Favorite books | Walker Percy's The Moviegoer and Somerset Maugham's Of Human Bondage - both medically qualified, as was Bulgarkov: Master and Margherita a masterpiece but all worth reading. Also recommend Tim Winton's Cloudstreet and am re-reading Virginia Woolf. |
