| Introduction | I'm a 4th generation native Californian whose great grandparents came West during the Gold Rush (1849 or so). Both of my grandfathers were raised as Jews but their children (my parents) were raised as Protestants -- American Baptist on one side and Calvinist/Congregational on the other. I myself was raised in the Congregational side of the United Church of Christ (UCC) and I am an ordained UCC minister. I was a pastor in Connecticut for 7 1/2 years before joining the UCC national staff in Cleveland, Ohio where I worked in the education and publication division from 1991-99. I am not currently employed because of disability following a stroke when I was 41. I preach when invited and do occasional guest speaking stints. I am active in my local church as a member and try to be supportive of the minister although sometimes I'm sure I'm a needle in his eye. I enjoy creative writing and stay current in my craft through courses in nearby Stanford's continuing studies programs. |
| Interests | eating, sleeping, shopping, cooking, dining out, sleeping, exercise, hanging out (or sleeping) with my dog, playing at my computer, watching Jeopardy, chatting with friends - in person, on line or by phone, church (when I'm not sleeping), thinking up comedy routines and what I might say when I accept the Pulitzer Prize, preaching, creative writing - poetry, short stories, creative non fiction, even sermons. |
