| Introduction | I'm a 45 year old software engineer with a PhD in Applied Mathematics who has lived and worked in a broad variety of settings. I've always had an interest in combining different intellectual fields to get new perspectives on old questions. The most important area where I've found application to this is the question of "government". For at least 25 years I have listened to and participated in the arguments for and against big government; I now consider that issue settled on the "small" side. For me, the issue is now more in-depth questions on small government: how do the different forms of proposed small government differ from each other; how will (or should) different formal and informal institutions manifest in these worlds (e.g. currency? Regulation?); what tools and techniques can we use to even approach *answering* these questions (computer models? Theory?); how do we measure the efficacy of different proposals; etc. As far as the issue of "how do we get there": I think this *is* a key part of that: the better we have explored this area and answered these questions, the better we can explain it to *others* and get them on board. |
