Introduction THINK ABOUT THIS: Fling your arms wide in an expansive gesture to span all of evolution from its origin at your left fingertip to today at your right fingertip. All across your midline to well past your right shoulder, life consists of nothing but bacteria. Manycelled, invertebrate life flowers somewhere around your right elbow. The dinosaurs originate in the middle of your right palm, and go extinct around your last finger joint. The whole history of Homo sapiens and our predecessor Homo erectus is contained in the thickness of one nail clipping. As for recorded history; as for the Sumerians, the Babylonians, the Jewish patriarchs, the dynasties of Pharaohs, the legions of Rome, the Christian Fathers, the Laws of the Medes and Persians which never change; as for Troy and the Greeks, Helen and Achilles and Agamemnon dead; as for Napoleon and Hitler, the Beatles and Bill Clinton, they and everyone that knew them are blown away in the dust of one light stroke of a nail file. -Richard Dawkins ...
Interests I steal pens, sometimes intentionally (I’m forgetful, occasionally dishonest). I brush my teeth 4-6 times a day, but sometimes shower every other day (I’m hygienic, but I can be lazy). I freak out on airplanes, have the worst vertigo ever, and have to roll down my windows when driving over bridges (I have anxiety issues). I have the weirdest eating habits ever (I’m stubborn and picky), and I’ll probably make a blog eventually (I have a fair amount of free time). I own somewhere between 40 and 50 pairs of shoes (I’m a typical girl) - while cleaning, I threw 6 pairs away - twenty minutes later I pulled four back out of the trash (I’m a packrat). I scratch mosquito bites until I bleed (I have no self-control). Some people find my use of foul language offensive, but the people that matter don’t mind (I’m offensive). I order extra butter for pretty much every meal, and I will only drink out of straws unless I’m at home (I’m weird). I like to make plans (I’m structured). I like to keep my plans (I’m reliable). I hate breaking or changing plans - especially at the last minute - it makes me crazy - just ask my friends (I’m a plan Nazi). I heart dogs, but not cats (I’m partial). I like to eat candy corn, but I don’t like the white tips so I break those off and throw them away before eating (I’m OCD). I have dreams about losing my permanent teeth - usually the incisors - at least once a week (I’m vain). I love to travel; I will pretty much go anywhere if I have enough notice, and I waiting patiently to find someone to go to Europe with me (I’m somewhat adventurous). I don’t usually drink dark sodas or carbonated beverages (I try to be as healthy as my eating disorder permits). I can eat sunflower seeds like nobody’s business (I have only a few select talents that I’m proud of). When I get drunk, I talk in leet speak - sometimes I do it when I’m sober (I’m an uber nerd, and proud of it). I can keep a secret, but only if I can tell at least two other people (I gossip).
Favorite Movies Fight Club (best movie ever), Gattaca (spelling courtesy of J-Watt), American History X, Girl Interupted, Seven, True Romance (don't let the title fool you, it's not a girly movie), Braveheart, 12 Monkeys, Memento, Willy Wonka and the Choclate Factory (the one with Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka), Requiem of a Dream, Bram Stoker's Dracula, Blow, Chasing Amy/anything Kevin Smith, Event Horizon, Road Trip, Sin City, and I pretty much like any historically-founded war movies, especially WWII movies.
Favorite Music Dresden Dolls, Portishead, Bjork, Panic! at the Disco, We are Scientists, Supreme Beings of Leisure, The Killers, Muse, LCD Soundsystem, Letters to Cleo, Regina Spektor, Deftones, Mazzy Star, Ani DiFranco, White Stripes, Gravity Kills, Pennywise, The Distillers, Radiohead, Dashboard, Less than Jake, MC Chris owns, Weezer, Rage Against the Machine, Beastie Boys, Sublime (classic), Tori, Rancid, Poe, Beth Hart... Yeah, I know that most of the shit I like was the shit I listened to in nineth grade, but my tastes haven't changed much.
Favorite Books Roffle, that's almost a joke for me. I think of "reading for pleasure" as something people do to when they have free time. I don't have free time, and when I do I freak out a little bit and get another job. Also, reading is a relaxing activity for me, so relaxing in fact that I usually pass out within twenty minutes regardless of how interested I am in my reading material. When I DO read, I don't really like "stories" or "novels". I like Richard Dawkins, Noam Chomsky, Melvin Konner, Richard Preston, Matt Ridley, but mostly I read text books (when I buy them). This made me feel really lame. I'm gonna make an effort to read more for pleasure, like "literature" or something...
