Introduction Background: Paternal grandmothers family arrived in the New York Colony, from Pfafferode, Germany, in 1720. Her husband, my paternal grandfather was born in Supino, Italy, just south of Roma. Like most immigrants of the day he Anglicized his surname, from Vespazina to Westpy, when he arrived in 1897. My maternal grandfather, who I was named after, was born in the city of Avellino, Italy, to the west of Napoli. His wife, my maternal grandmother, who was like a mother to me, was born in San Fele, Italy, north of Potenza in Basilicata. With all of this in mind I think that you could say that i'm a WASPY WOP.
Interests My interests vary as one might expect of an Aquarian with a Capricorn rising. I love food especially from the various Italian and Spanish regions. Caribbean Spanish food also appeals to me.Therefore I cook and love it as much, well almost, as eating. I dabble in some French, Indian, Thai, and Middle East cooking as well. I like to collect Japanese Imari, as well as English style Imari, from the 18th., 19th., and early 20th., century. Politics are yet another interest. I support my political beliefs financially, with membership, and now with blogs. I believe in and completely support the Constitution of The United States of America, total Gay civil rights, a woman's right to choose, amnesty for illegal immigrants, universal healthcare, and reparations to Aferican Americans.
Favorite Movies Brokeback Mountain, Reds, Philadelphia, A Beautiful Mind, On Golden Pond, West Side Story, My Fair Lady, To Kill a Mocking Bird, A Singel Man, The Deer Hunter, The Last Station, My Own Private Idaho, The Godfather, The Rocky Horror Pictuer Show, Evita
Favorite Music My musical interest is very varied. It ranges from Gregorian, Byzantine, Orthodox, and Tibetan chant through Early and Renaissance music. I have a love for the Baroque, Classical and Romantic periods of music as well as Chamber and full Orchestra and Opera. There is a special place in my heart for Appalachian music along with The Blues, up-tempo Jazz, and Show music.
Favorite Books I'm in love with a lot of books which most all seem to be nonfiction. The Webster's Collegiate Dictionary, Roget's 11 The New Thesaurus, and The Scholastic Dictionary of Synonyms, Antonyms, Homonyms, are next to my lap-top and use every day. Also close to my desk is The Power of Compassion and The Way to Freedom both by His Holiness The Dalai Lama, The Accidental Buddhist, by Dinty W. Moore, Science of Being and Art of Living by His Holiness Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. On the lighter side there is Plato's The Republic, which I like to pick up from time to time, The Constitution and The Citizen's Constitution which is an annotated guide by Seth Lipsky.
