| Introduction | I am a Spanish and Latin teacher at Freeport High School. In my previous teaching life, I was a French teacher at Maine schools from Machias to Scarborough for 15 years. I have taught Italian with Freeport Adult Education. The students know me variously as "the teacher who speaks all those languages," the teacher with Red Sox memorabilia all over her room, and the teacher who has a picture of Severus Snape taped over her own on her staff badge. Although I live and work in southern Maine now, I grew up in Ellsworth and graduated from Ellsworth High School and the University of Maine. Thus, I self-identify much more as a "real Mainer" than a "southern Mainer." My Whitmore ancestors were from Verona Island near Bucksport, all the way back to the 18th century when its name was Whitmore Island. Maine roots don't grow down much more deeply than that! |
