Mary and George

| Introduction | George was born in 1945 and grew up in an Air Force family, moving frequently. Mary was born in 1950 in Iowa and moved hardly at all until she moved to DC after college. We have been married since 1978 and have two children, Riley and Bud. We met in 1972 when George worked at the US Transportation Dept. and Mary worked as a management consultant, doing contract work for DOT. We had our first date in 1974 and have been together ever since. Mary stopped working for pay after our daughter Riley was born, but has had a long career of volunteer work. George retired from DOT in 1997 and joined a start-up non-profit in DC. Riley and Bud grew up, went to college, and found jobs. Riley married Joel and they now have a son Theo. Bud moved into a condo in the DC area and loves sports. In 2010, we decided we were ready to move to the next phase of our lives. We wanted to learn to see the world through a different set of eyes and, at the same time, contribute in some way. We found Volunthai and figured it was a great opportunity for us. We created this blog so that our family and friends can keep up with our big midlife adventure. |
