| Introduction | I'm an Englishmen living in Australia since 1971. Having been brought up and schooled in the 60s and 70s, I was indoctrinated (as we all were back then) by my elders in the myths of mediaevalism and superstition i.e. religion and pseudoscience. Having been recruited at a young age by well-intentioned Christians, I fell under the spell of Jesus and the love of God. Somehow in the back of my mind niggling at my subconscious, I was troubled by the inability to reconcile belief in a supreme being with the obvious reality of the world as I saw it. I finally managed to shake off the shackles of absurd ancient ritual and blind faith by education, by studying science and rational thinking. The wasted years of blind dogmatic faith in a non-existent God and all the hideous trappings of Catholic hypocrisy are behind me now. What I'd like to do is try and stem the tide of ever-growing alternative belief systems, whether religious or pseudoscientific. With the flowering of new-age modalities like alternative medicine nonsense, the war to be fought requires dogged determination. |
