| Introduction | KY has the fastest growing prison population in the US. Many of these prisoners suffer with chronic mental illnesses. Ironically, KY's state budget cuts occur during a time of economic crisis when mental heath services are needed even more than ever. This vicious cycle is inhuman! Helping a loved one who is experiencing psychosis, especially someone who may not realize they are sick (lack of insight or Anosognosia), is a challenging for everyone including mental health providers and law enforcement. I know because I live this nightmare everyday. As a mental health advocate… I want to help educated others regarding the need to improve our MH laws. The failure increases the risk of suicide, homelessness, drives up hospital costs, increases jail and incarceration rates, and puts many at risk of violence and homicide. In the coming months, I hope to post stories and state data explaining why we need to change Kentucky's Mental Health commitment laws in Kentucky. Please help me spread the word.
