Introduction	About the same time I learned to walk, I found a way to fall out of my parent's canoe and into the Ausable River. My father swiftly retrieved me and since then, I've led a life that for the most part, revolves around water- I've also found my way out of a few more canoes than I'd like to admit. Chasing bird dogs along the banks of the storied Mason Tract, or stalking wild Rainbow Trout in the remote reaches of Alaska, so reflects my life the way the river tumbles home. I cannot claim to be anything short of a damned fool in my pursuit of fish and fowl, but it is in this chase that I find clarity and purpose. An afternoon drift. The bell of a high drive Setter. A sunset tailgate conversation over Dixie cup bourbon. The harmony of water lapping against vessel; these simple pleasures provide needed perspective to what would surely be a catastrophy without. I am, in short, ever-mindful of my surroundings in direct relation to this pursuit. It is my hope that through my observations, others may find what is clear to them as well.
