| Introduction | After graduating in December I'll be spending 3 months volunteering in Kenya! The organization in charge of making this trip happen is called International Volunteer HQ, and their Kenyan partner organization is Fadhili Community. I chose to volunteer with the women's education program, which is a developing initiative designed to bring sanitary supplies and HIV/AIDS and sex education to young women throughout Kenya. Young ladies miss up to a week of school every month due to a lack of sanitary supplies, and a general lack of sex education results in many unplanned pregnancies and/or STDs. This program seeks to eradicate these issues. Since this program only runs every Saturday, during the week I will be teaching children in a local school. Volunteering internationally does cost money, but what's great about IVHQ is that the entire program fee goes into the Kenyan community to support both Fadhili Community and all of the services they will provide me, as well as my host family. Thank you so much for reading my blog and supporting my dream of making a difference in Africa! |
