| Introduction | My name is Mitch Stanberry, and I’ve been teaching for 22 years, with the last decade on the East side of Washington state. I transitioned from a traditionally affluent high school to a high minority, low socio-economic school—a shift that reshaped my teaching approach. I realized the strategies I once relied on didn’t work in my new environment. To serve my students equitably, I had to understand and address their unique challenges. This journey has been one of learning, unlearning, and growth, marked by successes and setbacks. As a Stellar Master Teacher through Central Washington University, I’ve focused on removing barriers for underserved students. Our efforts led to presenting at the AAAS and National Science Foundation conference in Washington, D.C., where we shared strategies for fostering equity. In my blog I share my experiences and practical strategies to help other systems create more inclusive learning environments. Equity in education is an ongoing journey, and I’m eager to learn and collaborate with all of you. |
