Introduction Who am I?

I toil in the murky world of software development and architecture for my supper.

Web Services - Java Developer, Weblogic Guy, Springy Thingy, Agile Coach, Unix Admin, Performance Dude, Garbage Man, Grifter, Architect, Technical Writer, Project - Development Manager, Charlatan, Flim Flam Man. I've played all these roles. Currently, I'm working as an independent consultant through my company, Technology Artisans or through other local consulting firms.

My humor is usually parched and pitch black, aimed often at the brilliance and sublime idiocy in the world.

Finally, at the end of the day, I'm really just a devoted student of life trying to get good grades (or at least not fail the class)

The opinions expressed here are my own (and they usually don't qualify as that for very long). They don't belong and should not be associated with my employer, my clients, Richard Nixon's ghost, the Pope's pet dog (if he has one) or anyone else. Another way to gauge my technology interests over time would be to visit my Delicious Page.
Interests Technology: Spring, Open Source, Java, Agile Practices, Domain Driven Design, Capacity Planning, Troubleshooting, Ruby, Scala. Other Things: Politics, Pop Culture, Music (Punk, Alternative, first gen new wave), Reading, Movies, Urban Blight, Pestilence, Larceny, Black-as-night Humor
Favorite Movies I don't even want to try ... most things by Scorsese, most things by Orson Welles (especially Touch of Evil), Woody Allen, usually. Recently, not much. Maria full of Grace was good. Usually enjoy anything written by David Mamet (State and Main is a gem of his that I just came across in April 2009). Usually like the Cohen Brothers movies. Dr. Stranglove, most of Billy Wilder, Chasing Amy, Dogma, Clerks (the man: Kevin Smith), Leaving Las Vegas, Most of Coppola (both Francis and Sofia) - Godfathers I and II, The Conversation, American Graffiti, Jaws, Dog Day Afternoon, Lost in Translation, the Virgin Suicides, Guy Van Zant's Stuff (Drugstore Cowboy, especially), Closer, Garden State, White Heat, High Sierra, Dead-End

Nina Hagen, Elvis Costello, Clash, Nirvana, Leonard Cohen, White Stripes, Springsteen, Black Flag, Billy Joel, Rollins, Brahms, Beatles, Stooges, Velvet Underground, Ramones, Sinatra, ABBA, Partridge Family, Germs, X, Arctic Monkeys (and throw in the warmer, 60s variety), Gang of Four, Dylan
Favorite Books Too many to list - Technology: Anything by Martin Fowler, Joshua Bloch, Sam Ruby, Brian Goetz, Grady Booch and Gregor Hohpe Non-Tech: Anything by Charles Bukowski, most of John Irving, the late lamented John Kennedy Toole (Confederates of Dunces, my personal favorite) and the late celebrated Doctor Hunter S. Thompson (especially the early work, before the fear and loathing beat him down), William Burroughs, F. Scott Fitzgerald, John Steinbeck, James Frey (yeah, he may be a bit of a fraud but doesn't mean the man can't write). Claude Brown (Manchild in the Promised Land), 1000s more. Lester Bangs, can't forget him. Don DeLillo, Kirsten Bakis, Natsuo Kirino, Maureen Dowd, most of Truman Capote, most of Joesph Heller, most of Norman Mailer. Ralph Ellison (Invisible Man). Henry Rollins (misc writing). Also enjoy Michael Chabon (Mysteries of Pittsburgh, Wonder Boys), Jay McInerney (Brightness Falls, Story of my Life, Bright Lights/Big City), Nick Hornby, Tony Hawks ('Round Ireland with a Fridge), Kirsten Bakis (Lives of the Monster Dogs), Chuck Klosterman (Killing yourself to Live, Downtown Owl, various mag articles).
