| Introduction | I am a 54 yr. old, divorced, white male. I am an only child and a Marine Corps "brat"; with my father having spent 30 yrs. in the Corps--retiring when I was 16 (1971), but since I went to college and graduate school, I remained a military dependent till I was 23 (1978). I was born with club feet, a dislocated left hip, and the most serious form of spina bifida, myleomeningocele. Happily, it was in the sacro-lumbar region of the spine--minimizing the paralysis. Similarly, I was spared the usual complications--a credit to the excellent surgeons I had at Bethesda Naval Hospital in Maryland in the spring of 1956. Finally, my parents truly supported and believed in me; and this empowered me to live and enjoy a happy life! |
