Introduction | My memoir, Not Exactly As Planned, is published by Demeter Press and is available on Amazon in paperback or Kindle format. I am a freelance writer and editor, also working in film and television. Since my son’s diagnosis with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD), I have become part of an extensive network of professionals, families, organizations and online groups interested in FASD, children with special needs, and adoption. I struggle continually to help my son, now 27, find a place in the world. |
Interests | My memoir, Not Exactly As Planned, is published by Demeter Press. I am a wife, mother gardener, birdwatcher and baker, walked a Catholic pilgrimage route in Spain, started playing the viola in my 50s, took my family to Guyana on a humanitarian aid project, have ocean kayaked off the coast of British Columbia and have had solo exhibitions of my hand-painted black and white photographs. I was born in Detroit, went to university in Washington, D.C., and now live on Toronto Island with my two children and husband, a filmmaker. I wish I could get more sleep. |
