| Introduction | Writing is as essential to me as breathing itself. In fact, words written by someone who inspires you, are like oxygen. You fill, not only your lungs with it, but your whole being. You absorb it body, mind and soul. And somehow, just somehow, it turns the ordinary into the extraordinary. The air smells fresher, the birds' song is more melodious, the sun shines brighter and warmer, the rivers and lakes are more clear .. it just makes life VIVID!!! I could not function without pen and paper. But recently I picked up an old love--painting. With the encouragement of a wonderful friend I am now discovering just how incredible the exploration of emotion through art can be. As Simonides said, "Painting is silent poetry, and poetry is painting with the gift of speech." But music is also extraordinary, whether I’m making it myself or listening to someone else’s. It is as important to me as writing. In fact I often can’t write unless I have some form of music on. I took piano for eight years and then picked up the guitar when the piano was sold. Been singing since I began talking. I imagine life would be exceptionally empty without either; without art, period. |
