| Introduction | I’ve been an animal enthusiast all along, but became interested in exotics while in college where I was required to train a rat for a grade. After high school in the Midwest, I attended Ringling Brothers & Barnum and Bailey Clown College, which led to three years of employment with Circus World near Orlando, Florida. I have a certificate in Exotic Animal Training and Management from Moorpark College, in California, and an Associate of Science degree from same. I currently work part-time with an agricultural company and part-time as a freelance writer. My work has been published in Pet Age magazine, American Profile and local newspapers. Other jobs I’ve held include fifteen years working for veterinarians, a few years in pet stores and one seasonal position as a zookeeper at the Racine Zoo. I believe in doing right by our pets without overdoing it and there’s almost always room for improvement. I write from my home in northern Illinois which I share with a husband, three kids, two pet birds, one rabbit and one very cool crested gecko. |
