| Introduction | Originally from Jamaica, I am a professional social worker and registered nurse. I have been a RN for 45 years, most recently putting my experience to work as a medical risk consultant. Disconcerted by the fear I felt for my sister during her battle for breast cancer and the fear I saw in her and her family, I built a practical tool to make a difference in her life and others. I wrote The Little Pink Purse of Courage - a booklet of specific questions for my sister - at the onset of her treatment for breast cancer. The questions help a patient understand her treatment better as well as establish her expectations for care with the doctor and staff. | Interests | I am interested in educating all people and women, in particular, on breast cancer. Specifically, my passion is to help women diagnosed with breast cancer fight the disease from a medical and mental standpoint. That is why I author this blog and created The Little Pink Purse of Courage. I want women to have a source of knowledge and power in what is one of the scariest and most trying times. I have experienced breast cancer firsthand through numerous friends and family members. From a medical and personal position, I know what it can do to a person. I use this knowledge to reach out to patients and their friends and family to help them cope and fight. Breast Cancer is not a death sentence. It is beatable and medical strides toward treatment and a cure are being made every day. Follow me on this nourishing journey of encouragement, not only survival, but victory! |
