Introduction What exciting details can I offer you? I'm an English teacher. I'm fifty-five years old, a black woman who is built for comfort and not for speed. I'm old enough to remember the assasinations of John F. Kennedy, Martin Luther King, Jr., and Robert Kennedy. Since I am now welcoming people into my classrooms who were born in the '90s, I could soon chronologically be the grandmother to many of my charges. Well, that sounds just peachy. I like to write, and some friends suggested that I share mySelf with all y'all, so I am. Will this blog be any good? In this age of sequels, prequels, and remakes, at least I'm an original. I also have a wicked sense of humor. Or am I just wicked? That's for you to decide.

For your birthday, your aunt gave you a maple syrup dispenser shaped like a rooster. Please write her a thank-you note:

Deat Auntie, I can't put into words the emotions that rushed through me as I opened your gift this morning. And to send it UPS! I'm shocked at what brown has done for me. You really shouldn't have--gone through so much time and trouble. I'm going to put this in a special place. Love, Dee
