| Introduction | We are old friends and former college roommates. We started on road trips at age 19, me with my camera and Laura along doing research for a paper for an anthropological sub-culture study. It was not our intension to be pickers, we just came home with stuff. Sometimes it was hitchhikers, other times something to decorate the run down farmhouse we lived in. Over 20 years later, we have filled our homes and yards with unique finds, mostly free. We recycle, reuse and repurpose. We respect the people in those small towns we met during college. We use radiators to heat our homes not as chairs and we have lived in towns with silos and think they should hold grain not be made into furniture. Nothing we find will ever be made into a “wing back” or “bonnet chair”. We do not make money picking but wish we could, our goal would be to repurpose an item and retain its original beauty.
