| Introduction | Moving to Toronto, Canada in 1989 from the warm sandy shores of the Caribbean island of Trinidad was the scariest thing I’ve ever done. On reflection, had I not made that move I would not have met my wife, nor pursue a career path and enrolling in and compleing the Masters of Education (MEd) Health Education and Active Living Program at Simon Fraser University (SFU). While I had a background in Pharmacy Studies (1986), a new life in Canada also meant a ‘new career’. In 1991, I graduated from massage therapy school. Soon after, I started a clinical practice, taught part time and took on the project of combining my experience as a pharmacist and that of a massage therapist to write the text-book Massage Therapy and Medications. It was published in 2001. In 1996, my wife and I made the move to British Columbia. In 2006 I had the opportunity to serve as Dean of Education for Utopia Academy’s Faculty of Massage Therapy (now known as Vancouver College of Massage Therapy). After five years at Utopia Academy). I maintain a private massage therapy practice, continue to teach CE courses to massage therapists and consult on massage therapy projects. |
