IntroductionAfter receiving a BA in English from the Clark Honors College at the University of Oregon, I fell into teaching children who had been diagnosed with autism. After several years of this work, I decided that the fastest and most meaningful pathway to partnership and learning lay in connection and play. In 2003, I gave birth to my second son and met Inbal Kashtan, my primary mentor in Nonviolent Communication. Seeing the need for compassionate parenting in my community and beyond, I began to share my practice within the year. My ongoing training in NVC dovetailed with my work as a parent: I enrolled in teleclasses and attended the Parent Peer Leadership nine-month program through BayNVC, returning to assist in the same program in 2007. In 2008, I attended Susan Skye’s Pacific Leadership Training in Portland, OR. All the while, I have taught classes and offered private sessions in our community, the Pacific Northwest, and by telephone both nationally and internationally (I am not a certified trainer).
