| Introduction | John Sellars is an Assistant District Attorney in East Tennessee covering Sevier, Cocke, Jefferson and Grainger counties, who was diagnosed with a hereditary blood disorder called Factor V Lieden. This disorder causes his blood to be too thick and to clot at a higher rate than most people. Most of those affected with this disorder do not realize that they have it until it has already caused significant damage to certain organs. The severity of John’s complications from this disorder are extremely rare. In John’s case, he must undergo a multi-organ transplant that will include a new stomach, pancreas, liver and small intestine. John will be required to relocate to Pittsburgh, Penn., in order to be near the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center to await the donor organs. He will be moving there in February 2008 to wait for the necessary organs and must reside there for at least one year while he recovers from his transplant surgery as well as being monitored for the anti-rejection medications that he will take for the rest of his life.
