| Introduction | - I have been facilitating drum circles and teaching hand drumming since 2004. I began my journey into the world of drums when working as an anthropologist in Mali, in the late 1990s. I returned to Canada with a unique shaker called the Kashaka, which I started to import and manufacture. I have since taught thousands of people to play them on my website, www.kashaka.com. - Today I teach in several schools across the GTA, and at day camps, day cares, community centres and hospitals. I am particularly passionate about the healing power of drums, and I work with people who have had strokes, people with Downs Syndrome, people living with AIDS and HIV, and youth-at-risk. - I am currently preparing to make a documentary about how drumming can reduce stress, promote good health, heal people and promote cross cultural understanding and build community. |
