| Introduction | I am an atheist who was raised Catholic, was a believer through college, but gradually came to the realization that my beliefs were based on how I was raised rather than on my own reasoned choices. There was no sudden epiphany when I realized I didn't believe in a god or any other supernatural entity. Instead, my continued quest to understand the world around me led to the conclusion that we are here not because of a creator, but because of the amazing natural laws of physics. It has always been my goal to try to understand as much as I could about these natural laws and to throw off the constraints of superstition. I am a free thinker and do not accept that anyone can dictate what I should believe. No kings and no gods rule my life. I am the captain of my fate. I am the master of my soul (metaphorically). |
