| Introduction | Born in Canada and now based in London, England, I am a freelance journalist, avid traveller and free spirit who despite seeming "high maintenance" enjoys getting mucky and pushing personal boundaries. I am part science nerd – armed with a science degree from the University of Toronto (Psychology Major and Biology Minor) – but my creative pursuits have managed to become the backbone of my career. My first volunteer experience as a journalist was when I was working for a newspaper on the Hawaiian island of Molokai. Here I helped restore an ancient fishing pond. Two years later, I volunteered as a building volunteer in Honduras. With the support of Voltimum and its partners, I was able to help build a home for a family in need and buy needed building materials to complete the project as well as start another one. I was also able to help out the community in other non-building-related ways, such as buying shoes for impoverished school children and throwing a community piñata party.
