| Introduction | My name is Steven Mitchem. When I finished college at East Carolina University, I went to work for galleries in Charlotte NC. Seven years later I went back to University of North Carolina at Charlotte to earn my teaching license and I have been teaching art since 1993. Several years later I returned to ECU and received my Masters in Art Education. My whole life has been centered on art, teaching, selling and always creating. I teach and practice art. I have shown in galleries, government commissions, corporate and private collections. Living in the town I grew up in has been a wonderful experience, but travel has been a favorite pastime of my wife, son and me. We love to see and experience new things and people, but with the benefit of raising our son in a hometown with family around. I also love the outdoors often go backpacking, climbing fly fishing and shooting sports. I have been practicing art over these years. I have shown in several galleries, commissions from local government and works in private collections. I have the belief that art teachers need to be an active artist no on sitting on the side line. |
