About me

LocationCanberra, ACT, Australia
IntroductionHello there, my full name is Sakura Alice Motomura and I am a half Japanese- half Australian visual artist. I grew up in Perth, Western Australia but trained in painting at the Australian National University in Canberra as well as one year spent at Kyoto Seika University in Japan. I am interested in paintings, paintings that are animated into videos and videos that are projected as installations. Perhaps I am just greedy. I am also interested in writing but let's not go into that right now. I am influenced by Japanese traditional art as well as the psychedelic and the pop. I also believe in the juxtapositioning of the grotesque and the beautiful. That things can be beautifully ugly or grotesquely beautiful and this opposition heightens our sensory perceptions. In fact, this may be very true of the world in which we live, after all nothing is completely and utterly: perfection in a nushell. Perhaps this notion stems from the traditional Japanese aesthetic known as wabi-sabi, an idea of a beauty that is impermanent incomplete and imperfect. In starting this blog I hope to lead you on a journey through my work, interests and happenings.
