Introduction | I started gardening in my family's backyard when I was a little girl. My mom had a kitchen garden with green beans, squash, tomatoes, carrots, and herbs which my sister and I helped her plant every year. When I moved out on my own I tried starting a garden but I could never get it to grow like back at home. That was, until my sister and I moved into a house together and combined our gardening skills. We had a fantastic garden in our backyard and some wonderful containers on our front porch. But, that too came to an end when I bought my condo which did not have a yard or porch. So I went without a garden for a year or two. Then, I joined a church up the street and noticed that their gardens were falling into disrepair. There were weeds and vines everywhere! So I asked around and found that no one was really working on the gardens. Now I am the primary gardener at Mount Vernon UMC. Other church members mow the lawn and bring flowers to flank the doors. Together we make the churchyard a Heaven on Earth. |
