| Introduction | I'm a 66 year-old retired State of California lawyer. I grew up in a Navy family, like being near and on the water, lived on a small sternwheeler on the Sacramento River, and now live on a canal in Stockton, California. I am married to a man who sailed around the world by himself in a 34' sailboat from 1975-76. Our newest retirement adventure is the purchase of 32' Beneteau motorsailer in Rockland, Maine. The boat was built in the 1970's in France. Our plan this year is to drive cross-country to Rockland, Maine where the boat is in storage. We'll spend part of the summer in Maine working on the boat to get it ready for traveling. After that, we hope to sail the boat from Maine to New York. From there we want to travel up the Hudson River and then through the Erie Canal. We have a multi-year plan, which will culminate in three years with shipping the boat from the Caribbean to the Mediterranean where it will be our ever-moving summer home on the canals and rivers of Europe. |
