| Introduction | I'm a full-time employee (graphic designer/director) which means I average about 50 hours a week. It's a challenge to take classes, because after working all day on a computer, I'm loathe to get back on it in the evenings or weekends for homework. Seems a bit ironic, to choose a higher degree in information technology, when I have such a love/hate relationship with computers. I'd so much rather be in a library, turning the pages, enjoying the typography and smell of the paper, ink and binding, than searching endlessly for more information than I could ever begin to retain. But that's the pull of the internet - knowledge is so quickly and easily at our fingertips. I think I need to log off now. And go read a real book. (Note to self: while I understand the lure of Kindle, I can't ever imagine replacing the physical and tactile feel of vellum and even pulp. |
