Introduction Ultrarunners are a good solid group of people that share similar traits and respect one another for showing up at a race no matter what the outcome.
Interests I ran my first 5k in 2007. I finished my first marathon, recovered straight away and played a full soccer game within 2 days. I concluded that I needed a greater challenge and Jon Stewart accommodated by interviewing Chris MacDougall about Born to Run. I read the book and went straight for the NF 50M at Bear Mountain. After I finished that race I briefly swore off all ultras but then trained for and sent in my application for Hellgate with number of ultramarathons completed: 1. My entry was kindly refused and I was advised to run a 100M before running that 62M. I built up a base of ultras and completed Massanutten as my first 100. Then I heard mixed opinions about whether Massunutten or Grindstone was harder so of course I had to find out for myself.
Favorite Movies 100's are in a category of their own and I love that they require so much to complete. Most people, sometimes even shorter distance runners, do not understand why we do this. But ultrarunners share a desire to challenge oneself. And the harder the challenge, the greater the reward. For me, completing a 100 or more feels life I have been granted a brief, privileged moment in life.
