| Introduction | I was born in San Francisco in the Year of the Dragon and raised in Hong Kong. At age 18, I fled the country after seriously injuring a man in a fight, and went back to live in the United States with nothing more than $100 in my pocket, the titles of 1958 Boxing Champion and the Crown Colony Cha Cha Champion of Hong Kong, and roles in twenty Hong Kong films. I studied philosophy at the University of Washington and decided to pursue martial arts instead of acting. I founded Jeet Kune Do (the Way of the Intercepting Fish), a formless martial arts system with no fixed position and an emphasis on practicality, flexibility, speed, and efficiency. I was wooed back into acting after a high-profile fight, and went on to star in such films as The Big Boss, Fist of Fury, and Enter the Dragon. |
