Introduction	Kathy Lovell - When my daughter was eight years old she was diagnosed with Leukaemia. After trying to explain to her about the disease and how it was treated, one of the first things that she said was, "I want to read a story about someone that has the same thing as me." There was very little around at the time, especially anything fictional with a heroine or hero with leukaemia. Having worked as a lecturer in Early Years Education and now as a home play vistor for children with special needs, I see Under the Fountain not only as a story that provides children with leukaemia with a positive self image but as an opportunity for all children to extend their imaginative play, their knowledge of sea life and to learn about the disease.
