| Occupation | Retired, US Marine Corps . . .. Researcher of North Carolina history. |
| Location | Richlands, North Carolina, United States |
| Introduction | I am a retired U.S. Marine who, due to my college degrees, conduct research dealing with our local history within southeastern North Carolina. I have been the subject of numerous southeastern North Carolina newspaper and magazine articles as well as international recognition. I have received awards for preserving the history of southeastern North Carolina. I had been, until recent years, locating old "endangered" cemeteries, some dating to pre-1800. I cleaned the over-growth of foliage, documented cemetery site for protection, and maintained each burial site the best I could with my limited budget. I still, however, present my detailed research findings to the general public and educate individuals on information that I had collected. As of 2023, nearly two hundred and fifty veterans (all African American) from the Civil War, Spanish American war to the war in Vietnam have been rediscovered and properly recognized for their sacrifices. Over seventy "former" slaves have been identified. Veterans laid to rest within these and yet-to-be rediscovered cemeteries need to be recognized for their sacrifices. |
