| Introduction | I have always been interested in the life of Jews in Arab and Muslim lands and the similarities between Islam and Judaism. I have explored these issues in my many books, essays, speeches, poetry and music. My interests involve the Sephardic perspective and practice of Jewish laws and rituals emphasizing the universal and the progressive interpretations of various Jewish traditions. In my preparation of Bar/Bat Mitzvah candidates, as well as in my marriage ceremonies, I present a spiritual and meaningful ceremony encompassing the event and the particular people for whom the ceremony is conducted.
