IntroductionWe gathered out of necessity. Years of neglect and apathy stirred a will for action. The people are hurting. Lingering in the wind are the voices of those hindered by the apparent absence of hope. It was time for black clergy to move beyond the comforts of the Sunday morning ritual of praise. Clanton C.W. Dawson, founder of Dawson Journey Ministries, challenged us to unite with a purpose. He evoked hope in a movement of clergy representing congregations throughout mid-Missouri. He asked us to come beyond our denominational and theological differences. He asked us to bring our common concerns – the pain related to black people – to build a work together. It happened on Saturday, September 20, 2014 at the Fifth Street Christian Church. Black clergy bonded under a common agenda. We will work to foster a social justice mandate. We will utilize all of the gifts in the room to empower one another. We will form welcoming space for liberating fellowship. We will reach out to those seeking the prophetic witness of the black church.
