| Introduction | My very first memory of being in love is watching a man in a Winged Wheel demolish a turtle wearing an Avalanche jersey. I was six, I didn’t understand how redundant my statement to my mom in that moment was. As I watched the Turtle huddle and McCarty became a legend, I turned to her and said: “The Red Wings are so awesome.” And so they are. I’m 22 now, I’ve grown up and moved out of Michigan to Minnesota, where I’ve spent the last four and a half years. That has not cured me of my feverish passion for that team in a Winged Wheel, and it’s not cured me of my constant need to comment on the product I see on the ice and the steps off the ice taken to create it. So here I am, to write about my guys. I am infinitely and forever proud of this team, but also a realist about Detroit hockey, so expect a bit of both in what I say. I’m big on hockey history, too, so probably expect a bit of that. I always enjoy a good discussion on the matter, so whether you disagree, agree, or are neutral on what I say come by for a chat on it anyway. And if the question crossed your mind, I hate the Wild. Hate. End of. |
