| Introduction | Elvia Susana Rubalcava is a writer, poet, community organizer, and mentor. She was raised in Santa Ana by parents who helped shaped her social consciousness and voice. Elvia currently works as a Community Outreach and Gang Prevention Specialist. She is also the board president and a teaching artist for Breath of Fire Latina Theater Ensemble. As an artist, Elvia writes in the genre of creative non-fiction in various forms. Her first play, Sala de Amor y Guerra was selected to be part of Fullerton College’s 2013 Annual Playwrights Festival. Her poetry has been published in Mujeres de Maiz’s Flor y Canto Zine 2011-2013 and Seeds of Resistance Flor y Canto: Tortilla Warrior.
