| Introduction | I have loved collage art since I was a teenager when I discovered Gloria Vanderbilt's Book of Collage. My own creative expression through the years often comes from somehow "putting things together"—whether old linens, fabric, broken pottery, or used, discarded objects. I particularly love bringing people together. I have spent the last ten years applying my life experience and background as a special education teacher working as an activities coordinator for the elderly in various settings. Some of our most intimate, joyful and powerful activities together have been the times of creativity and self-expression; making art and music and writing poetry. It was through the experiences of making art and music and writing poetry together that I found my calling. As Frederick Buechner said, “The place God calls you to is the place where your deep gladness and the world’s deep hunger meet.” |
