Plastic-free Edinburgh

Introduction We believe that if everyone significantly reduced the amount of plastics they buy and throw away, we can make a big difference to the amount of landfill being created every day by households across Edinburgh. We are focused specifically on trying to minimise the use of disposable plastics which are not recyclable, and which cover the majority of foods and goods we purchase on a daily basis. Do we really need to buy fruit on a Styrofoam tray, covered in plastic, and then carried home in a plastic bag? We also think we could also just use less plastic in general. Even recycling plastic takes a lot of energy – and there are so many types of plastic which can’t be recycled – I’m sure I end up putting things into my recycling boxes which end up going to landfill. So what if we just tried to cut down on using all plastics for a month, see what works for us, and then integrate that into our lives? The aim of the plastic challenge is to not buy ANY new plastic for a month, share about your experience, and encourage others to do the same. That’s it! Simple… Are you in?!
