| Introduction | A grad school professor of mine, Lucio Pozzi once told me I’d never be satisfied with my art... but I can try. I am an over-taught artist and often have conflicting feelings about the academic nature in which I used to paint and appropriated imagery I currently use. However, I find pleasure in combining the two styles to create an often-awkward narrative. My artwork is a dialog between my past and current self, enmeshed with past and current events - a persistent teeter-totter of what happened and what I believe to have happened in my thirty-nine years. I sand away portions of images to recreate them with a more tangible, human touch by layering in paint and graphite. At first glance the collages are simple, graphic and maybe even cheeky, but upon further examination the undeniable tensions arise. Conversations ensue. White space is essential. I am obsessed with using white paint as metaphor of multitudes. |
