| Introduction | I'm a healthcare writer, gardener, rower, and aspiring swimmer. I have a professional blog that explores a variety of healthcare topics. This blog is closer to home, and written for my friends. In 2009, one of my very dearest friends went into toxic shock after giving birth to her second child. From April through October, a wide community of people held its collective breath, waiting to see if she would be okay, and what, exactly, okay would look like. Now the two of us are writing our versions of what happened. "Erin's Mack Truck" will be a frequent subject of this blog as I piece together that experience into something that I hope will be a useful reflection on friendship, illness, health, and the unexpected.
