Why does the taste of pennies remind you of losing a tooth?
First, it can't be incredibly healthy to be tasting pennies. Copper is probably not good for one's dietary needs. And, not trying to sound too morbid or anything, but when one loses a tooth, of course, blood from the gums ends up in your mouth. And, it's moreover the iron in the blood that you're tasting, intermingled with other "tastes" within the mouth.
