| Introduction | I’m Miss Amelia Kallman. While living in the penthouse of NYC’s legendary Chelsea Hotel, I ran an illegal speakeasy with my partner, Norman Gosney. In 2007, we moved to Shanghai with the dream of opening China’s 1st burlesque nightclub. A masterpiece of design in a former Buddhist temple, CHINATOWN introduced the glamorous world of burlesque and new-vaudeville to China, and we were also the 1st to bring our unique entertainment style to Hong Kong and Malaysia. We received the honor of Shanghai’s ‘Best New Nightclub’ and have been the featured subjects in several documentaries, including a program with Piers Morgan. My artwork has been displayed twice at CH’s premiere gallery, Art Labor. With success came problems for us foreigners with numerous threats and incidents, resulting in our eventual overnight escape. I now live in London where I’ve completed writing my China memoir Diary of a Shanghai Showgirl (http://www.andrewlownie.co.uk/authors/amelia-kallman).
