There's something to be said for the perspective a guy gains growing up in North Carolina, and then, through some series of flukes, finding himself living the life of a pseudo-Texan in Austin -- a city that itself is doing some soul searching as it tries to revel in its uber-laidback roots while seeking acceptable ways in which to embrace its new status as a nouveau-trendy urban hotspot. If your whole body were a hot air balloon, would you stop eating spicy food?
I live in Austin, Texas. If I stopped eating spicy foods, I'd starve. Besides, that fleet of hot air balloons floating in the skies above Albuquerque doesn't seem to have a problem with all the spicy foods over in New Mexico, so why should I have a problem with them here in Austin?
