| Introduction | I am now an "honorably retired" minister in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) having served from September 22, 1985 to June 30, 2012 as pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, Bridgeton, New Jersey. My one previous pastorate, of thirteen years, was in the small northeastern Pennsylvania town of Tamaqua. My first blog, "Faith Pondering," considers a wide range of topics; faith is the lens through which I examine them, not necessarily the subject itself. I mean for my second blog, "Probing Biblical Thought," to fit into the category of studying the Bible. The subject is biblical faith or, to use the terminology of theologian Douglas John Hall, "thinking the faith" biblically. In both, I hope to raise good, helpful questions rather than defend old answers. |
| Favorite movies | For sheer impact on me, I'll mention one, a documentary film I saw in my youth on TV called, Remember Us. |
| Favorite books | A few authors whose works have been formative at times in my life:, H. Emil Brunner, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Gordon W. Allport, Gerhard von Rad, Jurgen Moltmann, Robert McAfee Brown, Abraham Joshua Heschel, Douglas John Hall, Donald L. Nathanson, Martha Nussbaum, Jonathan Kozol, and others, plus more than a few novelists, playwrights, and poets. And from my childhood, Thornton W. Burgess, and John Bunyan, among others. |
