Introduction Andrea is exactly the type of person college is intended for as she is an independent thinker who loves to learn and grow. As a freshman at Miami, she was involved in many areas of college life including playing the flute in the marching band and being a member of the steel band. She took part in Nanowrimo, an annual program in which the participants write a book in a month. She was involved with America Reads and the literary magazine Prism. In her studies, she took two 300 level English classes along with five core classes and music theory, ear training, piano lessons, and flute lessons. Andrea did volunteer work for the music department, such as calling prospective students and welcoming them to Miami. This coming year, Andrea is still hoping to do the Honors Mentor Program where students living in the honor's dorms mentor the incoming students. She was picked to be one of very few student managers at her job at the Haines Food Court. She is in the Scholar's Program, the Miami Student of Education Association, and the National Council of Teachers of English. She says, "On paper it seems like I do a lot but I definitely have time to enjoy myself and have fun."
