| Introduction | Subhani Shaik, M.Sc., Cartoon Editor Deccan Chronicle Secunderabad. For over the last 20 years now, my daily column Counterpoint has been the staple dose of humour, both serious and simple for over two million readers of Deccan Chronicle, the largest circulated daily from South India, published simultaneously from eight centres in Andhra Pradesh, Chennai in Tamil Nadu and Bengaluru in Karnataka. My cartoons also appear in the Asian Age daily from New Delhi and Mumbai. Earlier, I worked as an illustrator and cartoonist for Andhra Bhoomi weekly from 1985 to 1988 and in Andhra Bhoomi daily from 1988 to 1990. I have sketched 15,000 cartoons and 10,000 illustrations for newspapers and magazines. I have to my credit two books entitled ‘The drive’ and ‘Point - Counterpoint’. I have clear distinctive line and meticulous attention to not just the main characters, but also to the background. My works have been selected for prizes and catalogues at international cartoon festivals across the globe from Greece, Belgium, Germany, Sweden, China and Japan. |
