Introduction In 1995, de Meij visited Madagascar for the first time and was moved by the beautiful landscape and the Malagasy people. In 1997, de Meij and her husband adopted their first child from Antananarivo, Madagascar as well as their second in 2002. Wanting to give back to the country that had given them so much, de Meij founded Aid to Orphans of Madagascar (AOM), a non-profit dedicated to feeding and educating the minds and bodies of Malagasy children, in 2000. de Meij and her organization are recipients of the Gallatin Valley Peacemaker Award, Jack deLoss Charity Grant, and loyal funding from many people from Bozeman to the Netherlands. de Meij and her family currently live in the USA.
